With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations... and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Rehearsals: Tuesday/Thursday evenings at 6 PM and Sunday afternoons at 2 PM, beginning on Tuesday, December 29th, 2027
ALL ACTORS ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT EVERY TECH REHEARSAL & EVERY PERFORMANCE, IF CAST.
Tech Rehearsals: Sunday, March 14th –Thursday, March 18th, 2027

Performance dates include:

Saturday, March 20, 2027 @ 2:00 PM & 7:30PM

Character Breakdown

It features a mix of child and adult roles, each with specific vocal, acting, and casting requirements.

ANNIE (Female, Age Range: 10-13 yrs. old)

Annie is an orphan on a mission to find her family but discovers along the way what is important to her. Annie is a complex character who has moments of motherly love, streetwise toughness, independence, and hope. Her ability to light up the stage is nothing short of remarkable. 

• Annie in this production will honor the original spirit of the show having Annie as a redhead. This actor must be comfortable wearing a stylized wig for the show.

OLIVER WARBUCKS (Male, Age Range: 40-55 yrs. old)
Oliver is a powerful, self-assured billionaire with his mind on business. A gruff, yet kind man, Oliver is awkwardly affectionate toward Annie but finds himself charmed by her.

• Oliver in this production will honor the original spirit of the show having him appear as bald & clean shaven. A bald cap will be provided for the actor if needed.

MISS HANNIGAN (Female, Age Range: 30-40 yrs. old)
Miss Hannigan is the deplorable antagonist who runs the orphanage where Annie resides. She detests her job and the children who reside there. While outwardly awful to the children, she is also still funny and has great comedic timing. Miss Hannigan is a lively character, and this actor needs to be able to make Miss Hannigan a character that is larger than life.

GRACE FARRELL (Female, Age Range: 30-40 yrs. old
Grace is the private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. She is mature, calm, and classy. She is “the face” of Oliver when he cannot be around and is able to act businesslike. She also has very maternal instincts when it comes to Annie.

ROOSTER HANNIGAN (Male, Age Range: 25-mid-30s)
Rooster is Miss Hannigan’s brother. As deplorable as his sister, Rooster is a gambler-like antagonist who specializes in cunning and deception. Rooster is a fun character with great comedic timing.

LILY ST. REGIS (Female, Age Range: 20-30 yrs. old)
Lily is Rooster’s air-headed girlfriend. Lily is always distracted, but locks in on any conversation involving money. Similar to Rooster, Lily is a fun character with a great sense of comedic timing.

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (Male, Age Rage: Early 50s)
The 32nd president of the United States. The president is enlisted by Oliver Warbucks to help locate Annie’s parents. This actor will be closely imitating our former president and will assume his persona.

• The actor for this role will be performing in a wheelchair and should be comfortable with this.

THE ORPHANS (Females, Age Range: See Below)
The girls of the orphanage are a mixed bag of personalities. They can be gritty, vulnerable, honest, and lovable. The actors for these roles have mischievous fun with each other and squabble with each other as if they were siblings.

• MOLLY – (Age Range: 6-7 yrs. old) – The smallest orphan
• PEPPER – (Age Range: 12 yrs. old) – The toughest girl in the orphanage
• DUFFY – (Age Range: 13 yrs. old) – The oldest girl in the orphanage
• KATE – (Age Range: 6-7 yrs. old) – 2nd youngest orphan
• TESSIE – (Age Range: 10 yrs. old) – The crybaby of the orphans
• JULY – (Age Range: 13 yrs. old) – The quietest orphan
• ORPHAN ENSEMBLE – (Age Range: 6-13 yrs. old) - Additional orphans may be brought on and will sing/dance in orphan numbers.

ENSEMBLE – (Males & Females, Age Range: older teens and adults)
Actors in the ensemble will play multiple roles and will sing in group numbers or offstage in the wings. There are several opportunities to be assigned lines/solos as an ensemble in this show. Below are additional named roles.

• Servant Chorus
  Oliver Warbuck’s domestic staff. They present themselves in a refined and proper manner.
  • DRAKE – An English butler
  • CECILLE – A French maid
  • ANNETTE – A French maid
  • MRS. GREER – The head housekeeper
  • MRS. PUGH – The chef
  • SERVANT ENSEMBLE – Additional servants in the mansion
• NEW YORK CITY CHORUS
  The NYC chorus will have various scenes to appear in throughout the entire show. The following characters will have lines or solo singing lines:
  • BUNDLES McCLOSKEY – The laundryman who visits the orphanage. He has an innocent flirtatious relationship with Miss Hannigan
  • LT. WARD – A policeman who returns Annie to Miss Hannigan after she escapes the orphanage.
  • POLICEMAN – Lt. Ward’s police partner
  • DOG CATCHER – A person who captures stray dogs on the streets of New York.
  • STAR-TO-BE – A young, aspiring Broadway actress
  • USHERETTE
  • BERT HEALY – Radio personality. He helps Annie by broadcasting about the search for her birth parents.
  • BOYLAN SISTERS (CONNIE, RONNIE, BONNIE) – Assistants to Bert Healy who sing together in harmony.
  • JIMMY JOHNSON – A personality on the Bert Healy Show
  • SFX MAN – A staffer on the Bert Healy Show
  • FRED McCRACKEN AND WACKY – A personality on the Bert Healy show; a ventriloquist and dummy
  • JUDGE BRANDEIS – The judge that Warbucks hires to hold the adoption of Annie.
  • ROOSEVELT’S CABINET MEMBERS – Members of Roosevelt’s team. Members of the team are Ickes, Perkins, Hull, Morgenthau, Howe, and a Marine.
  • HOOVERVILLE FOLKS – Apple Seller, Eddie, Sophie, and multiple others. They are homeless and jobless people who live in shanty towns.

NOTE TO ALL AUDITIONERS:
The intent is to use a real dog for the role of Sandy. Rehearsals with Sandy will not occur until we arrive closer to tech week. Interactions with Sandy will be limited to the handler/trainer and only those individuals that work with Sandy on stage. Anyone with potential allergies related to dogs/pet dander must be aware and take the proper precautions to maintain health and well-being.
