This classic American drama is a heartbreaking memory play of family and lost dreams.
The Glass Menagerie, set in 1937 St. Louis, focuses on a chapter in the life of the Wingfield family as seen through the eyes of Tom Wingfield. Tom's mother, Amanda, a faded southern belle, desperately hopes to find a husband for her daughter, Laura, a terribly shy, crippled girl. Laura's only solace from her reality is her precious "glass menagerie," a collection of delicate glass animals. The Glass Menagerie remains an American classic filled with lyrical symbolism about the inability to escape the harshness of reality.
